VRS member and Mini rose-breeder George Mander has had his own Glowing Amber inducted into the ARS Miniature and Miniflora Rose Hall of Fame.
Fifty-eight Miniatures & Miniflora roses were candidates for induction at the 2015 Hall of Fame with the final selection announced in June at the awards banquet of the American Rose Society National Spring and Miniature Conference, held in Columbus, Ohio.
George, who was sworn to secrecy for months leading up to the official announcement, admits he was 'thrilled' when he was first informed in April of the honour by the ARS, but adds, 'Without nature's help, it wouldn't have been possible.'
Glowing Amber has won numerous awards since its introduction in 1996. In recognizing the mini for its 'excellence and longevity', the ARS cited it for '(standing) the test of time in commerce for at least 20 years'.
The Hall of Fame was established in 1998 by the ARS Board of Directors, and since that time 37 miniature and miniflora roses have been inducted.
In closing comments via the formal letter of notification to George, the ARS wrote: 'Sincere congratulations and thanks to you for providing the world with Glowing Amber,'
